Summary of case: His original claim was that he had an entire horse which was of importance to the country for breeding. He also had an acre of garden and 600 feet of glass providing local produce. The local tribunal gave him 1 month exemption and stated that the entire horse was a very small pony and the acre of garden and the 600 feet of glass were not in accordance with fact. His appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal was based on the fact that as well as the above he is employed on a local farm as horseman replacing an employee who after being exempted for a short time is now in the army.
