Summary of case: ‘This man is indispensable being the only man capable of taking charge of the Department which covers a wide area, including the district of Skelton, North and New Skelton, Boosbeck, Saltburn, Lingdale, Margrove Park, Charletons, Hoversholm [sic] etc…….and doing a trade of £800 per annum. Four men have gone to the colours from this department we have substituted female labour who are working late hours in order to cope with the trade. This is a general trade throughout the year, and not a season trade.’
