Summary of case: Harry Walton is in partnership with his brother having their own horses and horse breaking business. This business is worth £1000 at this time but both he and his brother have been engaged and fully occupied by the Remount Department to break in horses and mules at the expense of his own business. He states that if he joins the army his brother would not be able to continue the business as his brother is employed by the Remount Department part-time. This would cause serious hardship. The local tribunal's decision stated that 'the applicant is one of a large family who does not appear to have made any sacrifice, however small, for their country. The Remount work is lucrative work to horse dealers'. He had been 'badged' until a 'few weeks ago and was de badged, this would not have been done if he had been indispensable'.
