Summary of case: Applicant begs to appeal from the decision of the local tribunal. Who gave him total exemption, but now certificate cancelled. Applicant is sole tenant of Town End Farm, Tunstall of 70 acres, including arable and grassland. They have cattle, including milk cows, bullocks and young stock. Plus 49 sheep and two working horses. The man in question is the only man on the farm, and he acts as horseman and stockman. We have 23 acres of meadow land to cut and get the hay in. Applicant himself owing to an accident to an eye some years ago, hospital two weeks, suffers from impaired eyesight, the sight of both eyes been affected, and is unable to act as horseman or follow the plough. If man taken he would have to give up farming, which would mean serious financial loss. If man is taken he cannot get the hay crop and harvest of corn, and no man to go with grass cutter and binder. Applicant has young son just left school, but not skilled in this work. He appeals for an exemption until Michaelmas, to allow hay crop and harvest to be gathered in.
