Summary of case: Appealing for this man who is horseman on Hill Farm, Tunstall. Applicant applied for exemption in February last and was granted absolute exemption. This certificate of exemption has been cancelled and application made application to the local tribunal for a renewal thereof, but has been refused. The farm is considerable size of 196 aces of which 100 acres are arable land. He as one man in the house and a boy, but are even now, also family members work on farm too. He has a lot of cattle, of which 10 are milk cows, heifers in calf and steers to fatten and young stock. Also 136 sheep, 10 horses of which 6 are working ones. This man does all the stacking, thatching, as well as horseman with the grass cutter and binder. Only one other man on farm, namely Joseph Pounder who is half tenant with myself. I am 68 years of age, suffer from chronic diabetes, and unable to work, except light work. If man is taken I will not be able to carry on. Wife is bedridden, and daughter attends her. Another daughter is crippled with rheumatism. He asks if they cannot give grant absolute exemption, then at least till Michaelmas, so that the harvest can be gathered in.
