Summary of case: It is absolutely necessary for me to have an experienced chauffeur to enable me to do my government and other work, and whom I can trust to look after my cars and keep them in running order. I live 4 miles from the nearest railway station and 7 miles from my office at Darlington. In addition to being on several Government Advisory Committee which necessitate frequent visits to London leaving and returning by late trains for which I require my car, my principal work is in connection with the production of munitions and I use my car for visiting the collieries and works. I have no other man capable of driving and Liddle is therefore indispensable to me. 10 men in my employment have joined the colours, including my second chauffeur, and I have no one else left of military age who is medically fit. This is the only case on which I have appealed.
