Summary of case: Singleton is the tenant of the Angel Hotel, the chief licensed house in the village. He does a large amount of catering for the offices and military camp. He also caters for the public on account of the camp building in the vicinity, as there is a big demand for it. If called to colours hotel could not continue, as his wife could not carry on as a man is required to keep order in the place. He took the tenancy two years ago, and incurred a great deal of expenses in the business. If he isn't allowed absolute exemption, he requests that he be granted a reasonable temporary exemption say till 31 Oct next, so that he can arrange for as little loss as possible. He also as 10 acres of land, a Cow, 4 stirks, 1 pony and 2 pigs. If the hay crop is lost, it would be a very heavy one. and he would suffer hardship. His mother is a widow and solely dependent on her son, for her maintenance.
