Description | North Riding appeal tribunal number: 1096 Appeal against conscription of: Vincent Verity Age: 25 Address: High Sourmire, Masham Occupation: Shepherd Local tribunal: Masham Urban District Council Central tribunal: No Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Military Service Act Grounds for appeal: a) continue in current occupation Appellant: Lt. Col. McLean, Military Representative Summary of case: The appellant [Thomas Veritys father] has four sons of military age and another son stated to be 16, who I am informed will be 18 next months making five in all. Yet he does not hesitate at such a time to prevent them from serving their and his country. From the evidence it was impossible to avoid concluding that a sort of playing pillar and post was in progress as regards the staffing of two farms and there was a tendency to put private [and especially farming] interests before those of the country. I have no hesitation in saying that the man who would make quite a suitable soldier should serve. Supporting evidence: No Date and decision of North Riding Appeal Tribunal: 19 Jul 1916. Allowed. Exemption to 1 Oct 1916. |
