Summary of case: ‘I beg most respectfully to make my appeal against the decision of the Bedale local tribunal as I consider that I was most harshly dealt with. My mother who is in bad health, and who lives with me, has been a widow 13 years and during that time has been solely dependent on me. I am also married and have two children and the allowance granted by the Government being insufficient. Would mean not only the loss of my business but the breaking up of my home. I am the head of the business and were I called on to join the Army it would mean financial ruin. It has taken 12 years to build my business and all the money I possessed has been invested in it. The orders that I now have in hand will take me fully 3 months to complete and it is impossible to close a business at five minute’ notice. At the present time photography is a vital necessity to soldiers and their families’
