Summary of case: ‘(a) Sanatorium Authorities are under contract for the Treatment of 40 Patients with the Insurance Committee for the North Riding and Joseph Percival is the only man for the following duties (b). He has been specially trained to control the Electrical Plant and is the only person on the premises possessing this knowledge. (c). He is our horseman and apart from carting, haymaking, conveying the Patients etc., we are engaged in breeding, his experience and services are both essential. (d). We grow all our own vegetables for 60 patients and staff and in this work he is much need. 9e). His place could not be filled by other without special training, to find a substitute is impossible owing to shortage of labour. (f). Such an all-round specially trained man is absolutely essential to the competing of our contract with the Insurance Committee, and the varied requirements of the Local Government Board, under whose approval the Sanatorium is controlled.’
