Summary of case: ’I have nine acres of land one cow one horse two calves five sheep. I have no other help my brother lived with me previous to joining the Army two years in September I have a wife one child three years old and a servant girl. I have a good posting business connected to the place also carting. I am Huntsman to the Wensleydale Hunt being obliged to take this owing to the restriction on the drinking hours. I being unable to make a living and pay my rent which is £60 per year and Licence £13, also Rates 9 /-. I should have to go it will mean serious hardship and ruin of my business.’
