Summary of case: Townsend had his business for 15 years and was the only one with any capital invested in it. He had three months’ work in hand and it would be a serious hardship if his shop had to close. The local tribunal said his premises were very small so the capital invested would be very little. They also pointed out that Townsend’s wife takes in summer visitors; this provides the greater part of their income.
