Description | Bill of indictment of Samuel Brindle for obtaining two pounds of tobacco from Alexander Hedley by falsely pretending that he had been sent for the tobacco by Ralph Brindle who was known to Hedley in his business as a tobacconist, and was authorised by Ralph Brindle to receive it on his account
Brindle also obtained three boxes of cigars by falsely pretending that a letter was genuine which purported to have been written by Ralph Brindle to Hedley asking for three boxes of good cigars which he would pay for the next morning

Brindle had previously been convicted of misdemeanour at the Quarter Sessions for county Durham held at Durham on 4 January 1875

With certificate of conviction at the Quarter Sessions for county Durham held at Durham on 4 January 1875 of Samuel Brindle for obtaining £4 11s 6d, the property of Judith Jackson, by false pretences at Durham on 31 October 1874. Brindle was sentenced to hard labour at the House of Correction at Durham for one calendar month. Certificate dated 27 March 1875
