Description | Petition signed by 26 inhabitants of the township of Bowes. The bridge over the river Greta on the road from Bowes through Gilmonby and Sleightholme to the collieries at Tanhill, and then to Arkengarthdale and Swaledale, is narrow and dangerous because of a sudden turn at the south end. If the bridge could be widened and improved at moderate expense, then the petitioners would assist by carting materials, or in any other way that might be reasonably required
