Reasons for this were stated as: The applicant is the only dentist and his services are much required. He is a married man with four young children and has a large connection amongst the working classes. He also attends the miners and American soldiers [at Guisborough]. This is a one man business and serious hardship would ensue if he was called for service. The national service representative appealed the decision.
