Appellant: Joseph Jackson
Summary of case: Previous case decided 27 July 1917, had given exemption to 1 Jan 1918. Jackson argues that his services are essential to local farmers as he maintains and repairs their machinery. It appears that he had not been shoeing horses however, as the appeal decision was initially to grant exemption on condition that he shoe horses 'at every opportunity', and a letter from Jackson to the War Agricultural Committee following the final decision of 'refused' and after receiving his call up papers stated that he was willing to shoe horses when asked if he was granted exemption. It appears that there was a further consideration of Jackson's appeal in mid-February to consider this but that the local tribunal saw no ground for altering their decision.
