Summary of case: Boyce appealed 2 May 1917 stating that it was no longer necessary for Whipp to remain in civil life and the certificate was withdrawn not to be called up before 1 July 1917. Whipp appealed stating the importance of his work and that serious hardship would ensue due to his mother’s health. The appeal was withdrawn but he would not be called up before 16 September 1917. Whipp appealed to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal on 9 August 1917 on the grounds of his health and an offer of work in the Royal Engineers with the Yorkshire Coast Defence Area but the North Riding Appeal Tribunal were not prepared to hear his case again.
