DescriptionNorth Riding appeal tribunal number: 3683
Appeal against conscription of: Fred Fox
Age: 18
Address: Raskelf, Easingwold
Occupation: Joiner and wheelwright
Local tribunal: Easingwold Rural District Council
Central tribunal: No
Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Attested
Grounds for appeal: c) education or training, e) exempt occupation
Appellant: Rhodes Hebblethwaite, Military Representative
Summary of case: Military representative states that Fox is not in a reserved occupation and there are other joiners and wheelwrights in the area, so it is not in the national interest to remain as a civilian. The local tribunal states that Fox is Bii fit and has already been granted an exemption until 1918. The area he works is the most rural in the area and he is the only joiner and wheelwright left, pre-war five or six would have been employed. The closest other wheelwrights and joiners are 3-6 miles away, considerable time would be wasted if farmers were to take their implements there.
