Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Military Service Act
Grounds for appeal:
Appellant: Captain G W O Huddart, Military Representative
Summary of Case: The local tribunal had granted Maynard three temporary exemptions conditional on him remaining in his current occupation. The reasons they gave for this decision were that although there are many plumbers already in Scarborough who were exempted from military service there would be no one qualified to replace Maynard. If he were taken. They also stated that he was one plumber amongst many and therefore all the other plumbers should go before a tribunal. The military representative appealed against the conditional exemption as Maynard had been passed B1 by the medical board.
