Age: 37

Summary of Case: Whitaker owns a number of businesses and with the “depression” in Scarborough caused by the war his businesses would be forced to close if he is not there to run them. A number of his businesses have already been forced to close (such as his carpet and Lino business). A temporary exemption had already been granted for the appellant to get over the busy summer season. The local tribunal found that his work is not of national interest. The appellant suggested he might be sent to a munition’s works, the local tribunal thought that if he is fit for military duty he should undertake it. [See also NRCC/CL 9/1/1807]
